Architectural Designer Clementine Blakemore created this stunning translucent hyperbolic parabaloid canopy for London’s Design Museum Pavilion.
Filon supplied 264 sheets of 2mm thick natural translucent diffusing GRP sheet, each measuring 850mm x 525mm, for the project.
“It was a challenge finding a material that was rigid enough to act as shingles attached to the structure, yet flexible enough to accommodate the curves”, said Clementine. “The texture of the GRP also complemented the natural timber, giving an integrated look”, she added.
The structure was created for the opening of the pavilion and has since been dismantled, with all components re-used on other projects, to avoid pressure on landfill.
